What is Sentence Reduction?
Sentence reduction is the lowering of a convicted defendant's sentence by certain rates. Turkish Penal Code provides various grounds for reduction.
Grounds for Sentence Reduction
- Effective Remorse: Helping to uncover accomplices or the crime
- Good Behavior: Positive conduct during trial process
- Unjust Provocation: Crime committed due to victim's provocation
- Discretionary Reduction: 1/6 reduction at judge's discretion
- Minor Age: Special reduction for defendants under 18
Reduction Rates
In case of effective remorse, the sentence can be reduced from 1/3 to 2/3. In unjust provocation, reduction from 1/4 to 3/4 may be applied.
